Three years ...

I realize that since it's been pretty much three years to the week since I ripped off the dreamy "stay-at-home" bandaid and returned to work (after a three month leave) that I should get over the grieving. It's been a long grieving process, and I've spent a long time in the "anger" phase. I don't think that elusive husband, inheritance, or lottery win is going to come anytime soon so I might as well buck up and move on.

I am also going to move forward with ever expecting to really do more then make ends meet as a social worker.

I am also slowly moving forward with accepting that Lucy will be an only child. Ugggh. It's ok really, I feel like she has the next best thing with Morgan, Isaac, Nathan and Jacob. She also has "stepish" brothers Irmao, Wendim and Og living over there in Wisconsin. I mean she has 7 brothers that ultimately she could fall in love with and marry without it being gross or on the news or something. That's cool right?

So, since I have moved on with all of the above I think it's appropriate to award myself for all of the good mental health work. I have decided that this award must be a dog.

Auntie Jen and I have decided to go in together in the purchase and upkeep of a dog. We did a dry run to the humane society today. It was sure hard to walk out of there without a dog. We stayed strong.

I think a dog will keep me busy and satisfied for a couple years right? The dog will also be my first attempt at "co parenting" as I will be sharing responsibilities and everything with another adult. This will be an interesting little experiment.

Yay for dogs! They're the best. When will your new addition be gracing your home?

Your post sounded so sad to me. I hope that you can find peace in whatever you decide to do. You are already doing amazing things. *hug*

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT get a beagle. We love our Lola, but her attention span is only slightly longer than that of a fruit-fly. She is difficult to train, and has the energy (and lungs) of 5 3 year old children. With your job & Lucy & playdates, I would highly recommend a more laid-back breed.

Stacy -
I am also a single mom (only to 3 kids)we added a dog to our family last May when my oldest turned 9. I would suggest doing some serious research on the dog you choose to adopt before you bring one home. Through petfinder.com we found a rescue dog that has fit in perfectly with our family, but it took a couple months of searching to find the right one. Most rescue places will give you the real story on their dogs because they are living in foster homes. If you choose to go with a puppy consider how much time you will be able to be home - a puppy can only hold their bladder as many hours as they are months old (5month old = 5 hours).
Lastly get ready for some serious scary behavior from your cats for a couple of weeks.
I hope you and Lucy and Jen love the companionship and fun that a dog brings.

I can so relate to ripping off the band aid and sucking it up to go to work. I had a year off with Wodajo and have now been back a year (probably to never not work again). I am angry and resentful. Let me know if it every goes away.

BTW, love Zep - almost as cute as Lucy.
